It's a hard-knocks life!

Kim is out of town so it's just me and the Girls for the next 5 days. I'm not worried though. Emma's got Mommy covered.

Oregon Bounty Cocktail Finalist Announced.....

Unfortunately I was not one on the list. I have to say I am disappointed. I would have been tickled to win.
You can see a list of winners here.

Emma Starts Pre-K

It's Emma's first day back to school. She posed for a photo before we set off - sporting her new lunch box that she had picked out.

Once at the school, all the kids played while we waited for class to start. Emma was a very considerate driver.

After putting her lunch box in her cubby (that she found all by herself)...

Emma got down to business...

And soon had a pal to work with.

As we left, there were no tears nor worried looks. She was a totally non-plushed by the whole affair. Later, when I picked her up, all she wanted to do was show me some new playground tricks she'd learned, but had nothing else to say about class. She's a bit of a cool cookie.

However, before we got home she had fallen asleep in the car. I put her down on the couch when we got in. She sleep for three hours! Addie kept her company.

(BTW, Addie got her surgery staples removed this morning.)

So that was Emma's first day at her new school. We are very proud of her!

Our Visit to California in August

Great trip to California in August. We basically stayed at the beach all week. We were all happy to spend time at the beach and in the ocean. Group picture by TomHaving dinner on Doheny Beach

Holly in the Ocean at Blue Lagoon
My FAVORITE photo!
My Mom, cousin Jennifer, Aunt Linda and me at Crystal Cove.

I spent a lot of summers here with my cousins and aunt. She is a preschool teacher so she had the summers off to take us to the beach to find coffee bean shells and buy us penny candies on the way home. All the kids at Cyrstal Cove. We met up with Nelly and her girls Cadence, Michelle and baby Emma. Our old neighbor from Foliate, Alissa spent the night. Kids also had a sleepover with Madison.
Tom and I took the trolley into downtown Laguna Beach. Surprising number of locals take the trolley for transportation. I am talking to a friend I bumped into on the trolley.
We went to the Royal Hawaiian for Lapu Lapus, dinner at Thai Brothers and no we couldn't bring ourselves to go the the Sandpiper. We took a big leap and went to the Montage.

Sewing Project

I have taken on a sewing project. The girls wanted to be Princess Daisy and Princess Peach from the video game Mario Party. Tom and I will be Luigi and Mario. Guess what, no such costume. I searched the internet and all I found was that most costumes are "made".

I found the patterns that will work. I have cut all the fabric for Emma's dress now I just have to sew it. Harder than it looks. Luckily I have a dear friend whose mom is a pro and is going to guide me on my start. I'll keep you posted.

Back to School for Holly

Holly's first day of school at Ainsworth Elementary with Mrs. Pruitt. She is in a 1 and 2 grade mix, hopefully that will work our great.
She was a bit nervous but we had a chance to play on the playground and meet the teacher the week before.
Holly was the first up that morning and already dressed and eating breakfast when I came down to the kitchen at 7:15. We left the house about 7:35, it's about a 1/2 mile walk to school. We will be walking to school until it gets to chilly.
Walking on Clifton towards Vista.

First time at her desk. Too cute! She sits next to a boy named Henry.

Emma's PreK

I waited in line at 6:30 in the morning last May only to get on the waiting list for the PreK program we wanted for Emma. We found out a few weeks ago that she got in! It's a Spanish Immersion class three days a week at Fulton Community Center. Fulton was built in 1914, and was formerly an elementary school. A far leap from Oso Grande built in 2007.
We are hoping that this will help her get into the Spanish Immersion Program that is offered here at Ainsworth Elementary.

The Boys Iron Chef Challenge

The tables have turned. This weekend Tom is invited to participate in a very exclusive Iron Chef Challenge a la Eastside Portland. Requirements are one drink, one appetizer and one main. The not-so secret ingredients are rum, shrimp, and ribs.
Rules are regulated by.... yes, the women. Here are a few:
Each round will be judged separately by the ladies (whose impartiality is beyond question)
9. Judging for each round will be be based on Taste (20), Presentation (10) and Creativity (10)
A prize will awarded for each category.
Presentation order for each round will be determined by random drawing.
I will let you know what Tom is presenting and if he wins, AFTER the big day. I don't want to give away of his secrets to our competitors.

WOW, Heather M took all our kids to OMSI last week!

It was raining last week so Heather M volunteered to take ALL 9 of our kids to OMSI! She even took the time out to ask someone to take of photo of the entire girl gang.
No, we wouldn't do that to her. Her little one Allison wanted Mommy to be in the picture too.
OMSI is great for the kids on a rainy day. The kids had a great time playing together. We will definitely go back during the winter months.
